It's like Bones kind of grasped the pattern of FMA (or at least their version of it), but only the pattern. Which is to say watching the movie is like playing the games: my liking for the characters overrides the small nagging voice at the back of my head asking why the story seems SO FAMILIAR.
I don't like anime Al, and I don't like about half of the FMA anime because it seems like the people who made it were more interested in making angst than making a coherent story (WHAT THE HELL ROBO-ARCHER). I also don't understand how Roy could get wounded IN THE EYE (read: shot by Robo-Archer in the head) and somehow still be alive, because last time, I checked, a person's eye is one stop away from his brain. Then again, maybe the resulting prefrontal damage explains why he spat out that ridiculously out-of-character line about Hawkeye being beautiful.
Basically, the movie ends up just like the end of the anime. But on the other hand, I always like seeing Ed and hearing Paku Romi, and a member of Roy's team of loyal dorks had a great line:
"I have a feeling that that (Lieutenant Hawkeye) isn't the one Colonel's waiting for".
HA.
Anyway, it had a lot of wonderful things like Armstrong sparkling and RUINING the storefront of the barkeep in Ep.1, but it also had a lot of terrible things, like Al randomly dressing up in Ed's clothes and stealing his act.
And I will refrain from making a Wrath/Popeye crack.
I liked the movie overall, but I had to turn my brain off to do it. GODDAMIT, BONES. Why do you deny me my happy ending?

Ugh, I know, right? Then again, that Wrath kid looked cute if...weird... But you do make the point. >_> I guess I'm not the only one thinking the anime over-angst-ed, then. I didn't like the movie more than I didn't like the end of the anime... What can we do, though?
...Well, we can keep on reading the manga... >D
Hey, have you heard of a manga/anime called Monster? I want to know what it's about...

MONSTER??? Yes! It's a great suspense manga about a talented brain surgeon named Dr. Tenma who is confused about his role as a doctor... should he do as the hospital director says, and use his skills to save rich or famous people who can benefit the hospital, or treat all patients equally? Anyway, over his operations, he ends up saving the life of a killer, and decides that despite his duty as a doctor to save people, he has to kill the monster he rescued from death.
It's really great! I read the entire manga.
